Will you be my Valentine?

All my girls were asked this question this Valentines day. Ellie was the first. The first in the whole school actually. It started a couple weeks ago when she got a text from David. It said "will you be my Valentine?" I was near Ellie when it came through and she immediately read it too me. She had no idea what he meant by that. Did it mean she liked him or loved him ? was it just for the day? Would she have to get him a present? So she replied "what does that mean?" And "you'll have to ask me in person". So I guess David got together with the other boys in the 6th grade discussed what it meant. With the help of Sam's older brother, they decided it meant that if you said yes, the boy would give you a present on Valentines day. The girls also decided that they should give the boy something back. But it definitely did NOT mean that the girl loved the boy or that they were boyfriend and girlfriend (thank heavens, im not ready for that). So when David pulled together all his courage and got a little push (literally) from his friends and asked Ellie if she would be his Valentine, she said "oK". And David ran away and hi-fived his friends. Ellie was also asked by Joshua in her class and Grant Judd apparently wanted to but thought since she already had two he should be nice and ask someone else. who can blame them, Ellie is awesome!  The Valentine thing began to trickle down from 6th grade to 5th grade and to a few 4th graders.  Reagan had a boy in her class Michael, ask her to be his Valentine.  And Reagan, my sometimes brave and usually flirtatious daughter, asked the boy she likes to be her Valentine. Actually she had her friend ask him on the bus, but that is still more than I ever would have done.  So Reagan also had 2 Valentines.  Tess has a little friend, Mason, who has a brother in 6th grade with Ellie.  This older brother told Mason that if he loved Tess, he should ask her to be his Valentine. Of course Mason loves Tess, so he asked her one day while they were playing at his house.

 So the presents:  ELLIE  gave David a card she made, and a chocolate baseball glove that said "you're a catch".  David gave Ellie flowers, 2 sets of chocolates,  2 cards and a couple candy bars. Ellie gave Joshua a little card and some chocolates.  (PS. Ellie had a very awkward moment when Joshua asked Ellie if she loved him and she said "no") Joshua gave Ellie a homemade card, some Japanese crackers, some chocolates and a candy bar and an invitation to his orchestra concert.

TESS made mason a homemade card and taped poprocks on the back. Mason made her pretty much the same card and taped starburst on the back.  It was so cute.

I also had a Valentine. Jordan.  I gave him some collar stays that I had engraved with special messages so he can think of me while he's traveling.  He gave me some beautiful roses and a gold katespade necklace that says MRS. 

We all celebrated by having our usual family dinner of love. Which thanks to Reagan, we have a couple pictures.
